The championship will bring together competitions in all disciplines of the organization in one city and on a single date. ISU President Kim Jae-yeol announced the holding of the tournament in the Chinese capital in 2028 at the 60th congress of the organization. According to him, the championship will be a unique event in the entire 134-year history of the union and will be held within two weeks.
As part of the competition, medals will be awarded in all sports under the auspices of the ISU: figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating and short track. Previously, the world championships in these disciplines were held separately, Kim Jae-yeol emphasized.
The decision to hold a joint tournament in Beijing was announced at the ISU congress, which is taking place on the Spanish island of Tenerife. The organization hopes that the new format will increase interest in winter sports and unite the largest competitions under one venue.
