The Museum of Cultural Heritage of the Vologda Region has started work in Xi'an (China). The exhibition is located in several halls of the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Museum. The opening was part of a strategic partnership agreement concluded between the Vologda Region and Shaanxi Province in 2025 with the support of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Vologda Region Governor Georgy Filimonov noted that the project is being implemented in line with personal contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The museum features more than 100 exhibits, including Vologda lace, folk costumes, paintings, embroidery, wood carvings, northern black, fine art and works by modern craftsmen. Vologda lace occupies a central place: collars, murals, shawls, mantos and jackets of leading craft artists. Visitors will see products with rich floral ornaments and original compositional solutions. A separate part of the exhibition is dedicated to the image of Santa Claus. The museum also features Gzhel, Khokhloma, Palekh miniature, Dymkovsky toy, golden embroidery of Torzhok and Pavloposad shawls.
The opening ceremony was attended by Gao Yang, Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shaanxi Province, Vladimir Osipovsky, Minister of Culture of the Vologda Region, and other officials. In June, Russia's first Museum of Chinese Traditional Culture opened in Vologda, which was visited by more than 2.5 thousand people in the first month. The opening of the museum in Xi'an was a reciprocal step in the development of cultural exchange between the two countries.
