The volume of cargo road transport between Russia and China over the first five months of 2026 grew by 35%, the Russian Ministry of Transport reported following the 30th meeting of the Russian‑Chinese Subcommission on Transport. The parties agreed to additionally exchange 65,000 transport permits in 2026 and preliminarily agreed on 138,850 for 2027. This should support further growth in road freight transportation between the countries.
Over five months, Russian airlines have transported more than 1.3 million passengers — 50 % more than a year earlier. In the 2026 summer season, airlines from the two countries are operating 309 flights per week, compared to 220 last year. The volume of rail freight traffic in 2025 increased by 6.3% and reached 186.8 million tons. In May 2026, an agreement was signed to build a second main track on the Zabaykalsk–Manchuria section, which will allow an additional 11 million tons of cargo to be transported by 2030.
Maritime transport between the ports of the two countries amounted to 196.75 million tons in 2025, and 109.5 million tons in the first half of 2026, which is 19.2% more than in the same period last year. Growth is observed across all types of transport, reflecting the steady expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and China and the development of transport infrastructure.
